Our counsellors and therapist insurance policies provide professional indemnity insurance cover for claims arising out of negligent acts, errors or omissions. It also provides indemnity cover for unintentional breach of confidentiality, libel, slander, loss of documents, public liability, products liability and sexual harassment defence costs.

Some of the key features of our therapist insurance policies include:

  • The overall limit provided by the policy is €6,500,000 aggregate including costs and expenses during the policy period.
  • The policy provides indemnity for claims arising out of negligent acts, errors or omissions. It also provides indemnity for unintentional breach of confidentiality, libel, slander, loss of documents, public liability, products liability and sexual harassment defence costs.

“Loss” includes damages/costs awarded against you and your costs and expenses in defending a claim.

  • Q: My client has made a complaint about my conduct to my professional organisation. Do I need to notify my insurer?
    A: Yes, you must advise your insurer immediately of any complaints made against you. Once you contact your insurance provider they will guide you further.
  • Q: Do I need to ensure that all the therapies I am working in are mentioned on my certificate of insurance?
    A: Yes, it is important that you advise your insurer of all work you are carrying out as failure to do so may result in a claim being declined and/or your policy being cancelled.
  • Q: Why do student counsellors need insurance?
    A: Although you are a student, counselling insurance is still a valid requirement because what you say as a therapist to your clients may have a profound effect on their lives. Advice that you give could be acted upon. If it is and your client believes your advice had a detrimental impact on their lives they may seek compensation.
  • Q: Do I require counsellors insurance if I am a counsellor/therapist working from home?
    A: If you work from home, you may have to update your home insurance policy to take into account this extra activity. We can provide specialist advice for you on this matter.
  • Q: I only work part time - does this reduce my premium?
    A: No, this does not reduce your therapist insurance premium.
